Rugged Steel Construction; Deploys Fast For Instant Emergency Use
Heavy-duty, steel construction makes these emergency front flip sights the tactical shooter’s choice for LE and military tasks requiring a compact, backup, sight system of superior strength and dependability. Deploys easily with the flick of your thumb; disengages down, out of your sight path when not in use by depressing the spring-loaded pushbutton. Extra thick, protective ears guard against blows that could potentially bend or break the sight post or aperture. Solid clamp with large crossbolt provides rock solid attachment to Weaver or Picatinny rail systems. Knurled and slotted, quick-release thumbscrew makes sight easy to install/remove. Forearm Front Flip Sight is the shortened version of the Gas Block Front Flip Sight for use on tactical handguards with accessory rails. Provides the proper sight regulation by placing the sight post approximately 1-3⁄8" above most forearm rails. All steel construction. Includes standard sight post.
SPECS: Steel, Mil-Spec phosphate coating. 1" (2.5cm) long, 1½" (3.8cm) wide, 1½" high when raised. 2.5 oz. (71 g) wt.

One big, glaring fault(15.10.2009)
The sight is all steel and appears rugged. The one flaw in the design is that the detent plunger and spring for the sight post is at 9 o'clock not 12. I understand that the compact dimensions of the sight body require the that the plunger be installed there but the net effect is that the front sight post is tilted to one side. The upward pressure of the detent spring pushes the post over to the right. Thus, changing elevation via the front sight will also cause an unintentional change in windage.
Good FOREARM sight(16.12.2009)
Excellent sight, just beware that this is to mount on the forearm and not the gas block. A buddy bought this and couldn't figure out why he couldn't hit anything-- it's because he had it mounted where it wasn't supposed to mount! On a side note... there's not too much to a folding front sight. While you'll never catch me badmouthing YHM, if you can find a less expensive manufacturer, I don't think you'll lose too much in this instance.
Excellent Sight(14.01.2011)
I have a Smith & Wesson M&P15 OR. The gas block that is mounted on the weapon is higher than after market blocks. I could not get the rifle zeroed in until I bought this sight. I had the gas block front sight and it was still too high, so I compared my gas block to others. It was the gas block so I switched to the forearm sight. Zeored in minutes! If Yankee Hill did not have this sight I probably would've had to change gas blocks. Something I didn't want to do. So if any one needs a flip up sight this one is it. Remember my gas block is higher than other models. The gas block front sight is awesome as well my friend has one on his Bushmaster with an after market gas block and as well zeroed in minutes.
Outstanding front sight(08.08.2013)
I mounted this on a YHM Diamond rifle length forend and it fit perfectly. Coupled with a YHM flip up rear sight, I had the rifle zeroed in six rounds. As previously posted by another reviewer, I did not notice any tilt of the front sight post because of the side-mounted detent pin. Good, solid steel construction, folds down easily with a push of the side button. Locks back into place when you push the sight forward.
Good solid compact BUIS(10.10.2013)
All steel construction, I like that on a BUIS - built to last. Just like most YHM products, this one also exhibit quality, ruggedness and great price. Easy to install and use. Solid locking when in deployed position. May not accept some after market front sight post with only two detent notches due to side mounted locking plunger. Although primarily designed to be mounted on the forearm rail, I prefer my front sight BUIS to be mounted on a gas block for maximum accuracy. Some free-float forearm do not center perfectly with the bore axis of the barrel and they tend to overhang with some play (specially with heavier rifle lenght size)resulting poor accuracy. For this purpose, you will need the same plane gas block made by Midwest Industries (100-003-073WB) for .750 dia barrel or the Yankee Hill Machine railed bull barrel gas block (available from YHM) if your barrel is .936 dia. When installed, this two gas blocks will have the same height as your forearm rail.
Easily damaged, does not open.(03.11.2016)
Front left corner where the push button slides into easily damaged. Sight unable to open. Had to pry that corner for sight to open, but now does not lock.
