The major advantage of adding a tip to the bullet is the reduction of drag, producing a more favorable ballistic coefficient. The 165 grain Tipped MatchKing (TMK) bullet is an excellent choice for F-Class (F Open) matches, as well as 3-Gun and various other competitions. Due to the ballistic advantage that the tip provides, the 165 Tipped MatchKing (TMK) will stay supersonic at 1,000 yards at normal .308 Winchester velocities, unlike its untipped counterpart. While they are recognized around the world for record-setting accuracy, MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications. Although MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are commonly used for varmint hunting, their design will not provide the same reliable explosive expansion at equivalent velocities in varmints compared to their lightly jacketed Hornet, Blitz or Varminter counterparts.

SIERRA a amélioré une partie de la gamme MatchKing en ajoutant une pointe en résine acétal, couronnant ainsi la ligne de balles Tipped MatchKing (TMK). L'avantage majeur d'ajouter une pointe à la balle est la réduction de la traînée, produisant un coefficient balistique plus favorable.
La balle Tipped MatchKing (TMK) de 165 grains est un excellent choix pour les compétitions F-Class (F Open), ainsi que pour les épreuves de 3-Gun et diverses autres compétitions. Grâce à l'avantage balistique que la pointe offre, la TMK de 165 grains restera supersonique à 1 000 yards à des vitesses normales de .308 Winchester, contrairement à son homologue sans pointe.
Bien qu'elles soient reconnues dans le monde entier pour leur précision record, les balles MatchKing® et Tipped MatchKing® ne sont pas recommandées pour la plupart des applications de chasse.
