Sling Stud by YHMC(12.05.2015)
I just drilled and tapped a free float tube (I bought it here) 5/12/15. I used a 5/32 bit (very close to a #21 drill bit) and took my time with my step bit in my cordless drill on low speed. I tapped the hole with a 10-32 tap, and it worked great. I put a couple (2) small washers against the outside of the tube to take up the shoulder where the stud is not threaded. A drop of medium locking fluid on the stud and in the hole. Good to go. I preferred the tapping the hole, snugging of the stud, and using locking fluid on this stud as opposed to putting a nylon-locking nut on the inside, but that's just me. Actually, a guy could do both--snug it up, and then put a nut on it from the inside of the float tube. The threaded portion is about 1/4", or about .250 inch.
I needed studs for my Mossberg 535 barrels. These worked perfect. The ones labeled for the Mossberg on this site are $4.99 and these are only $1.99 and have longer threads for better streangth. Win win for me!
